10th Annual American Fitness Index Released

The American College of Sports Medicine and Anthem Foundation released the 10th annual American Fitness Index. The 2017 data report ranks the 50 most fit cities in the United States. Twenty-five of the cities (50%) improved their scores from 2016, with Minneapolis-St. Paul now ranking first. Louisville newly ranks 50th adding to a decade of data to share about America's fitness and ways in which communities can improve.

TFAH: Funding Crisis for Public Health and Safety

Trust for America's Health (TFAH) has released a new report, Funding Crisis for Public Health and Safety: A State-by-State Public Health Funding and Key Health Facts, 2017.  This report highlights the findings that “core funding for disease prevention and health promotion programs has declined by around $580 million federally and has remained flat in states since 2010 (adjusting for inflation)”.

The American Hospital Association has published a new report, The Leadership Role of Nonprofit Health Systems in Improving Community Health. This report, a part of the Advances in Health Care Governance Series, advocates for hospitals to take on leadership in community health and recognizes the value of participation in multi-sector partnerships. It provides recommendations for consideration by health system governing boards and executive leadership teams.
