The CDC released their first-ever Early Care and Education (ECE) State Indicator Report in an effort to highlight state efforts towards addressing childhood obesity in the ECE setting. With 6 out of 10 children aged 3-5 years being cared for in non-parental care arrangements, there is a need for obesity prevention efforts that reach children at an early age.
A national initiative calle SugarScience launched this week. According to the CDC, among children aged 6–18 years, 9% of total sodium intake came from school cafeterias; among 568 children who consumed a school meal on their 24-hour dietary recall day, 26% of total sodium intake came from school cafeterias.
