Report: Critical Congenital Heart Defects in the United States

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Birth Defects Prevention Network recently published two new papers related to critical congenital heart defects. The papers describe new U.S. data for seven types of critical congenital heart defects and describe ways that birth defects tracking programs can help with newborn screening.

Report: Estimated HIV Incidence in the United States, 2007-2010

The National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have released the latest estimates of new HIV infections (HIV incidence) in the United States. According to the estimates, HIV remains a serious health problem, with an estimated 47,500 people becoming newly infected in 2010. However, there is a decrease in new HIV infections among black women when comparing 2008 to 2010.

Webinar Series: The Injury Control Research Center for Suicide Prevention

The Injury Control Research Center for Suicide Prevention (ICRC-S), a new CDC-funded research center focusing on a public health approach to suicide research and suicide prevention, is launching a series of monthly webinars and conference calls starting in January 2013. The webinar series, "The Intersection of Suicide Research and Public Health Practice," will be held on the second Wednesday of the month from 2-3 pm EST, starting January 9th.
