Call for Papers: Alcohol and Public Policy

The Journal of World Medical & Health Policy has released a call for papers for a special issue which seeks to contribute to the understanding of health policy related to alcohol consumption, including medical, social, behavioral, and economic outcomes. Papers evaluating the effectiveness of alcohol-related policies are encouraged, with an eye to improving public health, well-being and general welfare. The Department of Health and Human Servies has released enhanced National Standards for Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) in Health and Healthcare, a blueprint to help organizations improve health care quality in serving our nation's diverse communities. Working Together to Promote Oral Health Care for Pregnant Women

The American Academy of Pediatrics is hosting a free webinar to discuss the importance of collaboration among health professionals to ensure that the oral health needs of pregnant women are met. The webinar will take place on June 3 from 1 to 2:30 pm EST and cover key concepts around prevention, disease management, treatment, anticipatory guidance, and connecting with community resources, as well as focus on common concerns of health professionals and pregnant women.

Call for Papers: Transformative Change in Community Mental Health

The Journal of Community Psychology Practice has released a call for papers for a special issue on Transformative Change in Community Mental Health. Proposals for manuscripts and creative projects (up to 500 words) are due by July 8th, and proposals for creative projects, including videos and interview with key stakeholders involved in transformative change in community mental health, as well as proposals for book reviews, tools, and other multimedia forms will be accepted.

Initiative to Reduce Elective Deliveries Before 39 Weeks of Pregnancy

The National Institute of Child Health & Human Development's National Child & Maternal Health Education Program has introduced a new Initiative, the "Initiative to Reduce Elective Deliveries Before 39 Weeks of Pregnancy," as studies have shown that long and short-term adverse outcomes may be avoided if a healthy pregnancy is allowed to continue until atleast 39 weeks' gestation. An infant born prior to 39 weeks faces a 20 percent greater risk of significant medical consequences.

Report: Characteristics of Pregnant Teen Substance Abuse Treatment Admissions

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration has released a new report, "Characteristics of Pregnant Teen Substance Abuse Treatment Admissions," which found that between 2007 and 2010, there were about 57,000 female teen admissions to substance abuse treatment, and that four percent of these were pregnant. More than half of pregnant teen admissions (51%) reported using drugs or alcohol in the month prior to treatment entry.

Funding Opportunity: Street Outreach Program

The Administration for Children and Families has released a funding announcement, "Street Outreach Program," to fund grantees providing street-based services to runaway, homeless, and street youth who have been subjected to, or are at-risk of being subjected to, sexual abuse, prostitution, or sexual exploitation. Up to 56 awards will be awarded which are designed to help grantees assist youth in making healthy choices regarding where they live and how they behave. The closing date for applications is June 28, 2013.
