The National Partnership for Action to End Health Disparities (NPA) has announced an upcoming webinar in the American Indian and Alaska Native Behavioral Health Webinar Series.  The webinar, Tackling the Opioid Epidemic in the Chickasaw Nation, will focus on the various components of the Chickasaw Nation’s prescription drug abuse prevention movement and discuss the challenges and successes from the movement. This prevention movement comes after Oklahoma ranked 10th in the nation for drug overdose deaths in 2014, and the unintentional poisoning death rate is highest for American Indians in the state. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and the Southern Plains Tribal Health Board provided grant funds for the Chickasaw Nation to create the prescription opioid abuse prevention movement, Define Your Direction.
