The National Association of County & City Health Officials (NACCHO) has published a report, The Changing Public Health Landscape, containing new findings on the forces that are affecting the nation's local health departments. The report focuses on the four following areas:

  • Budget cuts and job losses
  • Zika prevention and response
  • Multi-sectoral partnerships;
  • Workforce recruitment

The report highlights some of the economic and infrastructure challenge that contribute to the changing public health landscape today. Findings show that although the economic situation is gradually improving for many local health departments, one in five still reported a lower budget in 2017 than in 2016.
