Former CDC Director, Tom Frieden, has launched a new $225 million global health initiative addressing cardiovascular disease and infectious disease epidemics.  The initiative, Resolve, will be housed at Vital Strategies, which announced that the initiative plans to save more than 100 million lives through the prevention of heart attacks and strokes and will prevent epidemics, by helping low- and middle-income countries close life-threatening gaps in epidemic preparedness and response. The epidemic prevention component will focus on four key areas to improve capacity and preparedness including implementing and strengthening disease tracking systems, supporting laboratory networks, developing and supporting “disease detectives”, and mounting rapid response teams for the prevention of unchecked outbreaks. Resolve has received funding commitments from three leading philanthropic organizations including Bloomberg Philanthropies, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
