The National Academy of Social Insurance has released a new report, Strengthening Medicaid as a Critical Lever in Building a Culture of Health. The report explores the methods in which Medicaid policy can evolve to foster a Culture of Health through a direct role as a funder of health care as well as through aiding in support of services and programs that promote prevention and population health. The panel of experts announced "a series of steps that would enable Medicaid to build on its essential role as an insurer of more than 70 million people and increase its capacity to address the underlying social determinants of health." It accounts for the opportunities for growth along with the challenges it may face.
